In this weeks Hospitality Design, Will Speros explores Lido House to Debut in Newport Beach. "Developer Robert D. Olson is set to unveil the Lido House, part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, in Newport Beach, California next month. Irvine, California-based studio WATG oversaw the architecture and landscaping for the project, while Novato, California-based design practice EDG spearheaded the interiors. Each of the onsite cottages will boast their own individually crafted design motif courtesy of Grace Blu Design, Jennifer Mehditash Design, Brooke Wagner Design, Erica Bryen Design, and Blackband Design.
“We wanted the hotel to feel fresh without sacrificing the historical charm of the area. Our design is a timeless addition to the area, with a casual beach house vibe,” says WATG president Greg Villegas. “The Newport maritime aesthetic addresses our design goals in a contextual, meaningful, elegant, and upscale manner.”
Influenced by the vernacular of coastal homes and Cape Cod, the boutique-style beach house will span 130 guestrooms including five cottages. The two-bedroom, two-bathroom cottages will boast full kitchens and living rooms as well as fireplaces and barbecues on their respective rooftop decks. Along with classic tactile materials, brick, wood siding trim work, ironwork, and historic roof elements like dormers and copulas also evoke a casual sophistication.
A residential-style lobby welcomes guests with a coffee bar outfitted with large windows and operable French doors that overlook the beachscape. Lido House is also crowned with the area’s first rooftop bar, which includes the Ultimate Cabana located in a circular tower at the corner of the building, offering the best views from the property. The upscale, signature restaurant the Mayor’s Table will serve as a hub for activity. Additional amenities will include a courtyard pool, spa, fitness center, and banquet hall."- Will Speros
