In this week's Travel Pulse, Mia Taylor explores Autography Collection Debuts in Manhattan Beach. "The Autograph Collection has opened its latest property on 26 acres of land in one of Los Angeles’ most stunning and trendy South Bay communities.
The new Westdrift Manhattan Beach was designed to take cues from its host city, Manhattan Beach, which was founded by a New Yorker. The property offers an endless summer meets eastern seaboard vibe, an aesthetic that combines iconic design, amenities and culinary offerings from both coasts.
“With the opening of westdrift, Manhattan Beach finally earns a new hotel worthy of its sophisticated surroundings,” Stephanie Bauer, westdrift general manager, said in a statement. “The spirit of the Autograph Collection brand reflects a true sense of place, and the mashup of Manhattan Beach between business and beach proves an exciting, enviable muse. Upon arrival, guests will immediately feel that allure.”
The new Autograph Collection property is named for the westerly winds that sculpted the dunes of sugary sand over Manhattan Beach’s immensely popular boardwalk. San Francisco-based EDG Design and Theresa Fatino Design (as a design consultant) worked together creating the hotel’s destination-inspired design.
Westdrift exudes a sun-washed beachy palette with an East Coast aesthetic, including incorporating driftwood, modern lines, au natural textures and pops of navy blue.
The hotel’s a breathtaking lobby, for instance, includes a custom Argentine driftwood check-in desk framed by striking wooden columns with metal accents inspired by the city’s nostalgic pier.
Artwork featured throughout the property and guestrooms is by Sausalito photorealist Eric Zener, celebrated for his elemental water paintings.
The hotel also features a flowing, open floor plan, which leads to the indoor-outdoor Jute Coastal Bar + Kitchen, a venue designed to capture the sunlit effervescence that lured California dreamers a century ago.
The restaurant's communal-focused dining experience will be led by Executive Chef Octavio Sabado and will feature a bi-coastal inspired menu. Jute will also have a substantial cocktail program featuring a selection of innovative and seasonal libations.
Another notable feature, westdrift is just one mile to the beach and a quick stroll or bike ride to The Point, the city’s shopping, entertainment and dining hub. The property is partnering with Venice Beach-based Solé Bicycles to provide guests with “blue-sky beach cruisers.”- Mia Taylor
Additional amenities at the hotel include a nine-hole, par-three golf course and an outdoor pool flanked by cabanas and a CrossFit-inspired fitness center."
