Hyatt has announced that construction is underway on two forthcoming properties in Oceanside, California. The two hotels are expected to debut in late 2020 under the Joie de Vivre Hotels and Destination Hotels banners, respectively. Totaling a combined 2.8 acres, the adjacent properties will become the largest oceanfront development in San Diego County in more than a decade. San Diego-based firm Delawie will serve as the architect for both new-build hotels.
EDG will craft a casual, laidback sense of luxury across the 161-room Joie de Vivre outpost, which will also be home to more than 3,000 square feet of retail space and a rooftop bar and pool. Los Angeles design practice Studio Collective will oversee the design of the hotel restaurant. In addition, the property will feature the renovated Top Gun house—the iconic 1887 Graves House featured in the popular 1980s film—which will be accessible to the public.
The Destination property will span 226 guestrooms on the south block of the development and also feature an elevated, 9,000-square-foot pooldeck overlooking the coast. Additional amenities will include a signature restaurant, bar lounge, luxury spa, library, and more than 20,000 square feet of meeting and event space. San Diego-based Bill Bocken Architecture will collaborate with Delawie on the design, while LA-based firm Bells and Whistles will handle the restaurant design.
