Westdrift Manhattan Beach Wins LA Architectural Award

EDG Design was honored at the 49th Annual Los Angeles Architectural Awards, hosted by the Los Angeles Business Council (LABC) on June 21 at the Beverly Hilton. EDG received the Hospitality Award, which recognized Westdrift Manhattan Beach and the whole project team for exemplifying how great design can enhance the way we live.

Westdrift Manhattan Beach was selected from a competitive pool of hundreds of projects running the gamut from urban micro-living units to beachfront hotels. Westdrift was recognized for the Hospitality Award. Winning projects were selected based on their contribution to the Los Angeles landscape. Criteria include, but are not limited to: aesthetic design value, use of materials and contribution to the fabric of the neighborhood/community.

Winners were selected by a blind jury panel representing a cross-section of industry experts including architects, construction firms, owners and developers.

EDG reimagined an underperforming road warrior Marriott business hotel into Autograph Collection Westdrift Manhattan Beach – a modern clubhouse for work and play designed for a new generation of dreamers, doers and makers. From its overlook on the green expanse of a local golf course, this casual boutique hotel celebrates indoor-outdoor living with an activated lobby; combining reception, lounge and bar, signature dining and pre-function in one grand space. The lower level features a flexible 20,000 square foot event space with an industrial vibe and garage door sensibility. Guest rooms include simple coastal touches and colorful artwork with a beachy palette of wood battens, soft greys and vibrant blues.  Westdrift invites guests to ‘step into liquid’, California style…

Representatives from EDG along with leading architects, city officials, and business leaders, attended the awards ceremony at the Beverly Hilton. The keynote was delivered by OMA partner Shohei Shigematsu, who is making his mark on Los Angeles with the new Audrey Irmas Pavilion and the The Plaza at Santa Monica.
